Two Hour Tourist

On Saturday morning, my shuttle didn’t leave until 11:30.   I knew I didn’t want to spend my morning sitting around the hotel room, so I decided to check out, hop in a taxi and head into the city. I had the taxi drop me off at Pike Place Market.  Even though I had my suitcase in tow and looked like an obvious tourist, I was determined to experience a little bit of Seattle.

I was happy that on my last day in Seattle, the sun made a brief appearance.  It was still a bit brisk, but at least it wasn’t raining.  I headed down to get a good view of the water.  So pretty!  I just love water and hate that Atlanta is landlocked.

My mission during my two hour tour, was to see what I could see and eat as many tasty treats as possible.  I think I did a pretty damn good job.  As I moved through the market, I kept asking myself WWJD.

What Would Jenn Do?

My first stop was at this cheese place where I saw a crowd gathered.  I had never seen cheese made before so I pulled up a stool and watched for a bit.  All that sitting and watching apparently built up an appetite, so I moseyed on over to the counter and ordered up a cup of macaroni and cheese.  It was called “World’s Greatest” and I saw that as a challenge.

It actually was pretty darn tasty.  I didn’t think it was going to be that good, but I enjoyed it.  The cheese was creamy and flavorful.  The pasta (not macaroni) was cooked just right.  I actually had to throw the cup away before I finished the entire thing.  I had more eatin’ to do!

My next stop was at one of the fish guys I saw.  I have never seen such a spread of fresh fish laid out like that before.  The guy kept calling out all of the specials.  I immediately noticed the halibut because that is what I had for dinner the night before.

When I saw the cups of dungeoness crab I knew I had met a new friend.  $8 for a cup FULL of fresh crab?  Hellz yeah!  I don’t care if it was only 1030 in the morning.  My only regret is that I couldn’t find a seat to enjoy those tasty morsels.  It was worth every penny and was oh so delicious.

I walked around a bit more.  I wish I could have bought some of the beautiful flower arrangements or the fresh pastas, pickles and other confections, but I knew I was only taking a carry on to the plane.

When I came upon a line of people, I had to stop and see what they were waiting for.  Never one to turn down fresh baked donuts, I got right in line.  I only ate two of those two bite donuts.  They were soft and doughy and had just enough powder on them.

My last stop was at a place called Market Grill.  It was actually a lunch counter in the middle of the market.  I ordered a simple blackened salmon sandwich.  It was so good, but honestly, I was so full I couldn’t even do it justice.  I ate about half before I cried mercy.

My two hours at Pike Place Market were well spent.  I wish I had time to do more sightseeing in Seattle.  I decided as I walked on the streets looking for a cab that I would definitely be back.  There is a lot to do in Seattle and next time I’ll take my time enjoying it.

I went to Seattle for a work trip last year and loved it. It is so fresh and green and Pike Place is so much fun. Glad you go to get away.

I haven’t been to Seattle in over 6 years. I used to go often on work trips. That’s one of the few US cities I could see myself relocating to live there.

Wonderful! You went to every place I did on my Pikes Place excursion! Did you stop by the original Starbucks? I’m not even into coffee like that but I had to get a souvenir from there.

(Next time leave your bag at the bell stand at the hotel)

My hotel was in Bellevue, Washington.

I passed the Starbucks but didn’t see the need to stop since I don’t drink coffee.

I’m glad you enjoyed Seattle, I miss it so much sometimes, like when it’s 90 degrees on March 31st in LA.

Hopefully when you go back I will have moved back and can take you on a proper Seattle tour, there really is a lot to see and some really good restaurants.

Man. I’m still feeling cootie from a gross stomach bug but even those pictures made me want to eat.

What a fabulous last two hours there.

  7. I’m going to have to show M2 this post. He wants to do a summer trip there. I wasn’t so sold on it but I might to do some more research.

Damn that looks good. I would have dumped my clothes out of my luggage and filled it with the donuts.
